interested in this--could you enlighten your readership as to what makes a "True Celebration of Hemp"?

Read the article as linked.

Celebrating hemp is a cool idea. In what other celebrations can you get high by smoking your shirt?

I read the Wiki article and there was no mention of a true celebration of hemp or, for that matter, one word about any celebration of hemp. Is there another websourced article anywhere that delinates what constitutes a "true" celebration compared to one that isnt? Furthermore I will not only be surprised as well as disappointed if this event is allowed to happen. It's another prime example of how this town has degraded over the past 20 years or so. People are going to raise hell if it goes on and you cant blame them.

Below is Seattle Hempfest's 2011 promotional on their festival.

"Seattle Hempfest
Aug 19 - Aug 21, 2011
Seattle, Washington, United States

Seattle Hempfest is the world's largest event advocating cannabis law reform, in a unique "protestival" environment. This annual event is held every August in Myrtle Edwards Park on the Seattle waterfront.

Seattle Hempfest is founded in the belief that the public is better served when citizens and public officials work cooperatively in order to successfully accomplish common goals.

To educate the public on the myriad of potential benefits offered by the Cannabis plant, including the medicinal, industrial, agricultural, economic, environmental, and other benefits and applications. In particular, Seattle Hempfest seeks to advance the cause of Cannabis policy reform through education, while advancing the public image of the Cannabis advocate or enthusiast through example."

Thanks, Patrick, for promoting this dope smoking event for Astoria. I have no doubt you think we will be much better off if we have a joint or two and drift off in a haze of goodness for all.

I don't smoke "Weed" myself but, I do find the industrial uses for Hemp very interesting.

The question is, what will be celebrated and showcased should this event be allowed to happen at all here in astoria?

Of course it shouldn't be allowed to happen. Celebrating industrial uses of anything, except maybe for crops/resources particular to the region they are produced, sounds cosmically dumb. Hemp has no history on the Oregon and Washington coast except for the illegal variety. What kind of idiots are running the show if they let a huge pot party, complete with other illicit substances, is allowed to take place anywhere in this county? It would attract an even more whacked out percentage of the population, which coupled with the surge of Californians, homosexuals, east coasters and other less than desirables would make Astoria and even bigger shithole than it is.

So, McGee, is the Seattle Hemp Fest considered a "true celebration of hemp"?

American Heritage Dictionary:

(fĕst)
n.
A gathering or occasion characterized by a specified activity. Often used in combination: a music fest; a chilifest.

Is it?

A chili fest is it?

I think Anon was smoking his shirt.

the promotors of this thing are obviously liars and crimminals. What the hell were they thinking that the local communtiy would embrace such an event? Sounds like they're just out to see advanced tickets, get the money then disappear blaming the approval process for the failure20 tre

From reading about the process of this event, is the way the promoters of the Hemp Festival handled the event an example of what happens when one smokes too much dope? The process to get an event permit is simple and people do it all the time. But, the hemp guys seem to be having all sorts of problems. Are they actually able to cognate or are they simply believers in the Marley "don't worry, by happy" influence of smoking dope?

Hey, what does our elected sheriff say? He seems to be against marijuana dispensaries, although he refuses to actually do anything about them in Clatsop County. And, how about DA Marquis? He is the one that will have to prosecute these cases. Oh, but then Josh is not a politician is he? Maybe we should not rely on him to lead in law enforcement situations.
Should our elected law enforcement officials not step up and tell us what they will do?

Anonymous said...

Well, the Sheriff has had time to speak and he remains silent. Same for his cohart Marquis. We can only presume that Bergin and Marquis talk the talk but don't walk the talk. Too bad for us.

Too bad you people against cannibis seem to be a bunch of nuckle dranging neanderthalls GROW UP GET some EDUCATATION TRY FINNISHING HIGH SCHOOL.

Anonymous said...

I doubt it's so much "against cannabis, per se, we're against trying to entice thousands of people to our community for the express purpose of using cannabis. So wby dont the potheads try finishing high school (or anything else) and quit trying to screw up our town and outter areas

There's a lot of ignorance on this thread. There is hemp history in all of our states. George washington even grew it. We used rope made from it in both WWs. Juicing it raw doesn't give you psychoactive side effects. All the energy and pain relief without the high. Look up "leaf" on youtube. Educating oneself is the best feeling ever. I promise that its better than sex. (Learning, that is)
