there's nothing wrong with "shipbreaking" If you dont like it here why dont you move to Prineville and go to work for Facebook whatever the hell that is
There's everything wrong with it "Anonym" if every precaution is not met to safeguard the public and enviroment in a rush to collect a monthly lease payment unless you have evidence to the contrary.
You anyhting for us on the subject?
Have you any idea how stringent OSHA & enviromental protection rules and regs are in this state, McGee? I don't think you have a clue. If you notice all the bridge painting around here you'd see that not only is not one speck of old paint allowed into the into the river, not even any of the abrasive used to remove it either. You saw some national geographic show about scrapping freighters in India? Well, that aint the way it works here, regardless of what you say.
As long "Anonym" as "The Port" requires all criteria and mitigation with State and Federal Regulations be met "BEFORE" any lease is initiated and this company meets that criteria and we have a "Due Diligence Report" that proves all taht out, then so be it but until then......no deal!....in my view.
And no that ain't the way it works here and that's why so few shipbreaking operations and at least one existing, planning to move further south into Mexico for the same reasons as 90% of other shipbreakers use Bangladesh, Pakistan and India to ply their nasty trade...."Cheap Labor", "Weak Environmental Laws" and the like.
And now shipbreaking on the Lower Columbia River and its sacred, to many, estuaries?
Once again McGee is talking about something he knows nothing about.
F. Lloyd
And you do "Anonym"?
So, tell us what it is that needs to be corrected.
