Wyden Forwards U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshal Finalists to President Obama

Portland, OR – U.S. Senator Ron Wyden forwarded to President Obama today the names of the finalists chosen by a selection committee for U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal for the State of Oregon.

The 13-member selection committee appointed by Wyden and U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley made their recommendations to Wyden after interviewing candidates and deliberating over last weekend.

The committee chaired by Deschutes County District Attorney Mike Dugan was comprised of a diverse group of police, sheriff, district attorney, defense attorney, victim’s rights, and judicial representatives from each region of the state.

The committee was charged with recommending three individuals for each position. There was a tie for third in the voting for U.S. Marshal. As a result, Wyden is forwarding all four names to the White House for that position.

The finalists recommended for the position of U.S. Attorney by the selection committee:
Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis
Oregon Department of Justice Attorney Amanda Marshall
Acting U.S. Attorney Kent Robinson

The finalists recommended for the position of U.S. Marshal by the selection committee:
Lane County Sheriff Russell Burger
Portland Police Bureau Commander James Ferraris
Former Oregon State Police Captain Gerald Gregg
Former Gresham Police Chief Carla Piluso

The White House and Justice Department will now review the recommendations, and after further consultation with Sen. Wyden, President Obama will make a selection for each position. The nominees must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate once the President makes his nominations for each position.

Robinson is the favorite, but it would be nice if Marquis was chosen-not because he deserves it but because it would remove him from Clatsop County

Marquis is by FAR the best choice here, in terms of credentials, political connections and legal acumen. The others are lightweights. Oregon should be so lucky to have someone of Marquis' caliber.

Well, the process is far from being over but, remove him from Clatsop County if he is sucessful?

Hardly, this is Mr. Marquis' permanent home and he and his wife, I don't think, have any intention whatsoever of changing that as his office will be in Portland, a short commute with, I would guess, a temporary arrangement during his work week.

So, what about the prospect of he and the new District Attorney being at arms length from each other?

Bet that ought to scare the hell out of a bunch people.

Oregon would be lucky if Marquis returned to California and stayed there...as for "acumen", come on, his biggest case here that got him the most publicity was when he went after cat hoarder Vickie Kittles and made himself the laughing stock of the legal community not only in the County, but across the state. Yeah, thats some credentials alright. Marquis will be passed over because he's considered political poison and has to many political enemies...but it's nice to daydream about him leaving town-thats fo sho!!

"His biggest case here that got him the most publicity was when he went after cat hoarder Vickie Kittles"

Yeah, that and the dozen murder cases he tried, the scores of child molesters in prison, the embezzlers who had to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars and all the drunk drivers who killed people.

Other than that, he's done nothing for this community,

Seems to me, agree or disagree with District Attorney Marquis, his record and uncontested tenure here speaks for itself.

I'm certain somewhere there is a list of every case tried by his office that will reflect its record and remember, Josh Marquis doesn't sit there and do it all himself and he does have a commendable group behind him as part of his success that deserves quite a bit of merit.

A dozen? I don't think so--

can think of three off the top of my head that actually went to trial--the one where the crazy woman was stabbed in the head on a boat in Warrenton, the woman who pushed her husband off a cliff and the kid who aided in shooting those two people on the beach in Seaside in '97..now that leaves nine more "murder trials"-please, refresh our memory regarding these cases, if you can...and we know that isn't gonna happen

Marquis tried to inflate his budget requirements by knowingly inflating the number of cases the DA's office prosecuted. He was called on it and his stipend was yanked. This infuriated him against the BOCC and he vowed revenge-he meddled in local politics and tried to subvert the will of the people by making false accusations regarding LNG, knowing that nobody cared about his little revenge plot, but if made it sound like it was all about LNG the antis would swallow it hook line and sinker like they did

And where can one find this information that oultines all these deeds you attribute to The Distriuct Attorney?

Patrick McGee said...

The Harned case?

Anonymous said...

the Harned case didnt go to trial-there wasnt a prosecution--

as for source of info regarding Marquis'--it wasnt that long ago...it's fresh in everyone's mind and probably still on lots of local net boards--that is why his stipend was yanked because he was trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the budget committee--remember? they just didnt yank his stipend out of mean spiritedness--also,

Rich, ask anyone on the Clatsop County budget committee-especially Joe Bakkensen--or attorneys currently working or not...Nick Zafiratos comes to mind...all this was covered in the news...people havnt forgotten except the joshbots who conveniently get struck with voluntary amnesia. Marquis got caught with his hand in the public cookie jar..they were even nice to him instead of calling for his ouster...there are names for people who abuse the public trust in them-Marquis lied in an attempt to get something he wasnt entitled to--showed contempt for the people then shrugs it off. He is a liar, a thief and a cheat and is unrepentent-dont think people outside of clatsop county arent aware of it-he'll never get that federal job..no way in hell

Now, you've made your point here and this will stop unless you have verifiable documentation to back up what you say to present here and if not, you are welcome to take it someplace that will allow it.

I'm never coming back to this piece of crap blog--you left wing ecotards and moonbats have a natural aversion to the truth. Censorship is a tool used by people such as yourself to only allow one side of a story to get out-- GOOD BYE

The Harned case went to trial before Judge Nelson for weeks.
So did Villasenor, Serrato, Garner, Simpkins, Beverage, Harris, Painter, Stangel and Hutson.
Several others plead guilty.
That's just the homicides.

Well, I gave you the full paragraph, above, full of vitriole, without qualification, directed at the Clatsop County District Attorney and a chance to pick-up from there with respectful debate on issues regarding this discussion.

Good luck at your next site.

Yeah, defense lawyers like Zafiratos don't like Marquis...Hmmmm...wonder why?
Turns out he did send in all their little forms. When that came out they tried another reason...then it was on "principle" and eventually they realized they'd all be recalled if they continued.
The only person who got caught with her hand in the cookie jar (taxpayer money) was Ann, and look what happened.

Samuelson?

Hand in the cookie Jar?

How's that?

County Manager's Office

Josh would be OK as the US Attorney because he is very political and that is what it takes. We will not take on high profile cases that do not benefit the administration, but he will do it in a way most people will not be able to fathom. Otherwise, he is likely to do what his staff recommends and take credit for it, if the result is positive.
Now, if Josh had to manage anything or actually be responsible for the work of his staff, that would be another matter. We have seen that Josh is a terrible manager, but is smart enough to have hired a competant assistant. We have also seen that Josh is unwilling to take responsibility for his failings and, when caught, whines and leans on his friends. Fortunately, there are career people in the US Attorney's office to do all the work. Josh would just be a figurehead and he is truly good at that. Marquis for US Attorney!

Yeah, he's done a terrible job of managing the DA's office.
All those cost over-runs and disgruntled employees.

Tongue-In-Cheek right?

marquis lied to the budget committee by stating his office prosecuted 7000 cases month in the county courts...trouble is,3000 of those were traffic cases which the DA's office DOES NOT prosecute!! He got caught trying to ripoff the tax payers!!! HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH!!!

Actually the study the county paid for (LGPI) said the DAs office was doing almost twice as much work as other counties and needed three times the new employees they got.
The performance measures are online at www.co.clatsop.or.us under budget.
The number of cases in each county are also available online at http://courts.oregon.gov/OJD/OSCA/2009Statistics.page?
The numbers speak for themselves

Anonymous said...

yeah, the study was paid for by the county and rigged by some old croney of Marquis who did the study

Then that would leand much creedence to the justifiaction of his truly being the right candidate for Oregon's U.S. Attorney wouldn't it?

Here's a County District Attorney with virtually and entire sitting County Commission out to politically crucify his ass and he dupes them into paying for a study orchestrated by a buddy to confirm his office's creddibility?

How does that happen

Anonymous said...

He got caught on it-why else do you think they yanked his stipend?

He won't get the appointment-his name is just in there to serve as an "also-ran". It was already decided who would get the job before the announcement was made that there are mulitple choices to consider.

Of course he won't get it if he declines to take it but, my understanding is, he is the prime candidate of the three for the spot.

Josh is a terrific manager and should be the US Attorney. Let's forget that he gave some employees a pay raise that was not approved by the County and had to have money put into his budget to cover that. Pay no attention to his disregard for the requirements of the County budgeting process last year. We should not consider the cases, including a child abuse case, that sat under the desks of his lawyers until the statute of limitations ran out. That Josh's office constantly askes the police agencies to resubmit cases because the original ones were "misplaced" is certainly not a management issue. And, that there is no one left that was there when Josh started, plus the turnover in staff is considerable, does not mean anyone is discontent with him.
No, all these things just happen in spite of Josh's terrific management skills, not because of him. Don't believe me? Just ask his friends like Steve, Roger, Patrick, Jan, etc. Besides, he does not have to manage anything but his mouth as the US Attorney.

And you are alleging that this is fact?

Is that correct?

That's a very bold move on your part and how do you come by this information?

Speaks volumes. As if anyone needed anymore confirmation as to what and the who is the "generating force" behind these recalls. We know it isn't about the commissioners playing a straight game on LNG-it's all about Maruqis' legendary vanity and ego
