Anna Morden Dies From Injuries Sustained in June 14 Crash in Astoria

Oregon State Police (OSP) has been notified that a former Astoria City Council member's wife who was critically injured in a Tuesday traffic crash in the Astoria area died Thursday morning at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. OSP is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. According to OSP Lieutenant Duane Stanton, ANNA M. MORDEN, age 83, reportedly died June 16, 2011 from injuries sustained on June 14 when she was a passenger in a pickup driven by her husband, DONALD B. MORDEN, age 83. DONALD MORDEN is still hospitalized at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators confirmed the couple were using safety restraints at the time of the crash.

Driver Located Associated with Serious Injury Crash in Astoria - 06/15/11 Following up on numerous tips related to Tuesday afternoon's serious injury traffic crash on Highway 105 near Highway 202 in Astoria, Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers have positively identified and located the vehicle and driver sought in association with the crash investigation. Troopers have interviewed the 19-year old female driver. Her name is being withheld pending completion of the investigation and no citations have been issued at this time. According to OSP Lieutenant Duane Stanton, on June 14, 2011 at approximately 3:30 p.m. OSP was asked to respond to investigate the crash at the request of Astoria Police Department. The ongoing investigation indicates at about 3:13 p.m. a small Toyota pickup driven by DONALD B. MORDEN, age 83, from Astoria, was northbound on Highway 105 approaching a left curve where 5th Street intersects. According to a witness, a vehicle similar to a dark gray newer model Toyota Corolla was stopped at a stop sign southbound on 5th Street and pulled into the path of the pickup causing the pickup to come to a near stop. As the Toyota Corolla cleared the intersection the pickup was struck in the rear by a loaded log truck driven by KENNETH NESS, age 54, from Astoria. The impact pushed the pickup into a median area. The unidentified vehicle was last seen southbound on Highway 105. As noted above, the vehicle and driver have been located. DONALD MORDEN and his wife, ANNA M. MORDEN, age 83, were extricated by Astoria Fire Department personnel and transported by ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria. ANNA MORDEN was transferred by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in critical condition. DONALD MORDEN was transferred by ground ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious injuries. NESS was not injured. The Oregon State Police appreciates the citizens who assisted at the crash scene and those who called in tips to help in this investigation.

The 2011 Cannon Beach Farmers Market will be open on Tuesdays from June 14 through September 27, opening at 1:00 with music, prepared food, and community booths. All other vendors will open at 2:00, and the market will close at 5:00. Clatsop County Public Health Department Offers HIV Testing June 27

FREE HIV TESTING OFFERED JUNE 27

Clatsop County Public Health Department will offer free HIV screening to the public Monday, June 27 as part of National HIV Testing Day.
Tests will be provided from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Public Health office, 820 Exchange St., Astoria. The testing is by appointment only – call (503) 325-8500 to set up an appointment.
Testing is anonymous, and results will be available within 20 minutes of the test.
More than 5,000 people in Oregon are living with HIV, and about 275 new cases are diagnosed each year – but it is estimated that as many as one in five people with HIV are unaware of their infection, and this group is likely to transmit the majority of infections.
HIV testing helps prevent new infections and extend the lives of those with HIV. When people learn their HIV status, they can take steps to protect their health and the health of their partners.

After years of jumping hurdles presented by citizens and elected officials opposed to the project, the president of Hess LNG announced Monday that the company has withdrawn its application for a liquefied natural gas terminal at Weaver’s Cove.Hess LNG President Gordon Shearer first made the announcement in a three-paragraph press release issued at 3:15 p.m. Monday. He cited “unfavorable economics" for liquefied natural gas in the New England region” as the reason for the change of course.

Warning issued about paving delays between Wheeler and Rockaway
WHEELER - The Oregon Department of Transportation crews will be paving a section of U.S. 101 between Wheeler and Rockaway (milepost Z46 to Z47) starting on Monday, June 13.
Crews will be paving Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
