Energy Action Northwest Files Complaint Against Columbia RiverKeeper To IRS

What has been, since November 25, 2009, a concerted onslaught against Columbia RiverKeeper by local pro-LNG interests, pro-LNG group, Energy Action Northwest, a coalition of businesses and unions that stand to gain financially from LNG siting and pipeline construction, attempts to ramp the battle up a knotch it appears.

"...a concerted onslaught ... by pro-LNG interests..."
What a pathetic introduction to the River Keepers being accused of violating their IRS tax status. Unfortunately, it seems very 21st century Astorian to blame everyone else for the plight of one group that happens to be in favor, but may have actually done something illegal. Could it be that the River Keepers actually violated the IRS conditions? They should know, after all their chief executive is a lawyer.
No, of course not. Even if the River Keepers did wrong, it is not their fault, it is the fault of those evil LNG companies.
My God, is this really how adults act here?

And CRK's Chief being a Lawyer will be good reason for NCO and EANW to pray they got it right because he is very good at what he does.

This is not going to be pretty

One question;

And since these are State campaign/election violations why would Energy Action Northwest be taking this to IRS and doesn't it seem logical this issue should be taken to Oregon Secretary of State's office to investigate these allegatuions?

Patrick McGee said...

Below and based on the evidence presented by the NCO message Board nad EANW, CRK would likely have a more than valid argument that they, in fact, were doing nothing wrong in the use of their 5013c status.

From IRS; Certain activities or expenditures may not be prohibited depending on the facts and circumstances. For example, certain voter education activities (including the presentation of public forums and the publication of voter education guides) conducted in a non-partisan manner do not constitute prohibited political campaign activity.

In addition, other activities intended to encourage people to participate in the electoral process, such as voter registration and get-out-the vote drives, would not constitute prohibited political campaign activity if conducted in a non-partisan manner. On the other hand, voter education or registration activities with evidence of bias that: (a) would favor one candidate over another; (b) oppose a candidate in some manner; or (c) have the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates, will constitute prohibited participation or intervention.

The recall committee scripts specifically never, to my knowledge or interpretation, mentioned any exerted partiality or partisanship in conduct to those that were called, just emphasis on voting and getting their ballots in on time.

say good night to the river creepers-it's all over for them now but the crying. They're crooked, dirty and are now going to feel the crushing weight of their sins press down upon them. Bravo NCO for being the initial instrument of that horrible groups downfall.

Patrick McGee said...

Uh-Oh!

You obviously are not aware of CRK's counter to this are you?

Anonymous said...

their "counter"? HA!! Nobody gives their unctuous lies on bit of credence. They have no counter other than to disband

Could it be somebody needs to be geeting their affairs in order?

Oh, they got it right, alright. So CRK's big chief lawyer better find something else he's good at because his lawyering days will soon be a thing of the past. Perhaps he'll learn an honest trade in whatever prison he gets sent to.

Unfortunately, we will never know what really happened here. The IRS won't release much information and they generally do not punish groups, just individuals like us. Both sides have lawyers that will mouthpiece the stories of their clients so as to put a pretty face on them. I suspect the lawyer head of the River Keepers knows that they can pretty much break the rules and, at most, only get a nasty letter - So, why should they not do what then want (other than the morality of it, of course - but lawyers vs. morality, you know who wins)? As with most political things, then, each side will make up their story about why they did no wrong and we will continue our march down into never never land (Clatsop County, that is).

Patrick McGee said...

Everybody in the know around these parts knows exactly why this is going on and it, unfortunately, is far from over and somebody has made some serious "Bad Judgements" here that I, quite frankly, cannot see going unpunished.

I suppose the next complaint to the IRS will be the Astoria-Warrenton CofC who violated the IRS rules by getting heavily involved in the Recall elections.
Be careful of what you ask for....

Dorothy has just discovered the curtain behind which 'The Wizard' sits only to find out it's our little gang of G.O.B. Reds trying to protect what they think is their own little empire by entitlement and heritage and using some local wacko for their scapegoat in the end.

Oh, Aurebach, McGee & Durheim ain't local wackos-they're recent arrival wackos from somewhere else.
They're noisey, but generally ineffective and harmless.

You know, it's not my place to cast judgement upon Carrie Bartoldus's eccentricities, desire for acceptance and recognition or her Thoeocratic beliefs and following.

Fate will be her judge on those issues.

I simply ask for her and NCO to present irrefuteable and factual information on this, what I believe to be, farce of accusations being perpetrated against Columbia RiverKeeper and certain individuals in the community.

So far that hasn't been done and we would be wise just to await IRS's determination, if any.

All it is going to take is one good read by an IRS investigator of North Coast Oregon's website to determine that all the evidence they have is merely junk from a bunch of fools playing some silly game they think is called journalism.

the IRS, like every other government agency is politics (ie. money) driven-therefore, all it is going to take is one good read by an IRS investigator and the CRKs will get slammed for back taxes, penalties and interests going back to their inception. It can be argued, successfully, that they have defrauded the Federal Government. People have to face it that these LNG terminals are going to be built on the river. These dime a dozen ecotard groups are just hustling the faithful for contributions just like the tv preachers do. The tv preachers would lead you to believe that if you give them money you'll get into heaven, which you wont. The clowns like CRKs would lead you to believe that if you give them your money, they will get you into some nebulous heaven on earth, which you wont because their main objective is shoving your money into their pockets and not paying taxes on it. Dont think so? Well, just watch what happens. Who do you think spreads more money around Washington D.C. to get things done, the Rivercreepers or Big Oil?

Patrick McGee said...

Hate to squash your enthusiasm for all this LNG Speculator insurgency in our state but you know, "The People", in majority, of The Great State of Oregon, through its government and leadership still has the ultimate power to stop these projects in their tracks and there's a crapload of mitigation to be addressed by all three projects to my understanding plus a waining U.S. market for the advancement of the process overall but I admire your positive outlook.

On the plus side, "Short Sea Shipping" could quite possibly be right over the horizon.

Anonymous said...

You know even less about the maritime trades than you do about Oregon and the people here, McGee. You're a bullshit artist, and not a very good one-long on empty rhetoric and short on credibility. You always shoot yourself in the ass whenever you try to educate anyone with your cockamamie palaver. We noticed over on NCO when you were challenged to define Short Sea Shipping as beneficient to the lower river people and you chose not even to attempt to qualify any of your grandiose blather. That says A LOT about you and the sad state of your lack of practical knowledge of our area and state.

Patrick McGee said...

And there's a third word "Anonym", it's called "Google".

Try it, it has worlds of information on just about everything.

Simply Type in S-h-o-r-t S-e-a S-h-i-p-p-i-ng and it will give you much more infromation than you likely would want to "Read" or "Comprehend" in the first place but, it's there.

Maybe I made the mistake of assuming the average user of NCO was capable of doing that on their own...sorry.

Sorry, as well, you had to come all the way over here to refute that assumption.

Anonymous said...

McGee, quit acting the moron. Or, if you aren't acting wise up enough to realize that they were asking you to specifically define the benefits of short sea shipping to the lower river commercial interest. They asked you to list commodities and cargos that would be likely and you couldn't provide a damn thing except some smart ass remark about google. It says volumes about your glaring and abundant lack of knowledge. What is really puzzling is that you seem quite satisfied to make a fool of yourself-it's like you seek to embarrass yourself. That's wierd. Real wierd. But then, you're a real wierd dude who gets some strange thrill out of being a screwball. I almost feel sorry for you...well, almost. Some are saying that all your drugs and alcohol have burned you out. You should google up some information about getting some educational material regarding the damage drugs and alcohol do to the human brain. Maybe you'll learn something that will help you but you seem content to stay a fool. Oh well.

Patrick McGee said...

All that wasted rhetoric and name calling when you could have simply googled up "West Coast Short Sea Shipping" or "The I5 Marine Highway" or try "Port of Astoria, Short Sea Shipping" but, if you are going to let common sense, logic and simple fact gathering get in your way, don't bother even trying.

Who is "They" "Anonym"?

Is the "They" you are referring to, the same "They" that compiled all that eveidence NCO sent to IRS?

Anonymous said...

When you refer to Carrie Bartolduses theocratic beliefs exactly what do you mean by that?

Patrick McGee said...

Theocracy; is a form of government in which a god or deity is recognized as the state's supreme civil ruler, or in a broader sense, a form of government in which a state is governed by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided. ...One world Law, One world Government, One world Religion combined.

What about your theocratic ideals, McGee? You keep calling for the government to post the Ten Commandments on public buildings. How is that different from Iran?

Seems the only one keeps harping on "The Ten Commandments" is you "Anonym" and as seems to be your ilk, you have concocted a tale that never was.

Since when is proof part of a McGee thread?

You've never felt an obligation to prove anything you say, and you say a lot of wild shit.

I do know someone who has saved the screen capture of the thread you started in the Daily Astorian's old forum, and I hope he comes here to post it.

Well, I'll await "Anothernonymous's" post then but, now back to the discussion....Anybody come up with any documented evidence that CRK violated anything at all, other than Bradwood's footing in our community, that a judge could validate as anything resembling proof?

I'd love to see that too.

Anonymous said...

CRK is gonna get spanked-they got all the proof they need for the IRS to shut'em down.

Patrick McGee said...

So CRK goes away and it's all over huh?

Clear sailing down "Denial" is it?

I am afraid you are going to be terribly disappointed.

Anonymous said...

Not as disappointed as the CRKs will be when they get their IRS bill
