Clatsop County Commissioner Hazen Speaks On Post-Election Resignation Request And The Daily "A"

Thursday, June 03, 2010

Laughable
At last week's commission meeting, Jay Kiddle and Ted Thomas asked for the resignation of the three of us that lost the election last month. Normally I don't respond to personal attacks during business from the public, but I was not going to sit by and not respond. I informed Ted that I was elected in 2006 to serve a 4 year term on the commission and that I was going to fulfill that obligation and have no intention of resigning........Read Full Comment

No, what's sad is someone so resounding defeated and almost recalled holds onto power with his fingernails.
Read the precincts Jeff.
Even Warrenton wants you gone.
You're the last of the Three Sttoges!

Ever notice that with Hazen, Lee, Samuelson and Roberts it is always about serving the commission and never about serving the people?
Now they will get credit for detroying the gobs and sobs power base and giving it over to "The Hippies" and "Outsiders".
This is laughable.

Who the hell is Ted Thomas?

Resign now Hazen and save us all the misery of having to undo what damage you might cause between now and your last day of the commission. You already did enough.

Who the hell is Jeff Hazen?

To give the man the benefit of the doubt, can anybody list Commissioner Hazen's major contributions and accomplishments while in office to date?

what major accomplishments has any County Commissioner credited for in the modern history of the BOCC? You morons seem to attach too much power and importance to the position.

So, are you implying that niether Hazen nor any recent Clatsop BoCC has done anything of major significance or accomplishment?

Am I interpreting you correctly?

And anybody that would put importance on what it is that Clatsop BofCC does and the impact of those action in the community, you class, as morons?

Only a mentally ill person would go to a podunk county meeting with the intention of getting "noticed" for babbling out some stupid request for resignations. That guy is a nuttier than a fruitcake wannabe "activist" who lives off some older woman with money who moved here from California.

Whaaaaaaat!!?

A grown man living with an older woman with lots of money from California and by all appearances both being happy together?

A grown man not afraid to stand up under his own name and conviction, and be heard and ask members of an elected public panel of which, many would say, has lost the trust and confidence of those it is elected to serve and ask those individuals to resign to allow new leadership to move forward?

Oh yeah, this guy is "Bat Shit Crazy" for sure, you think but, what are you "Anonym" other than a nobody with an opinion that some would say doesn't count for anything at all?

Patrick McGee said...

The prior commissioners and Hazen, and Roberts served the county, it is a self less job, if you were involved in a meaningful way you would know that. People generally have no idea what is involved in being a commissioner in a home rule governed county.

You think, as Tom T. has referenced, that if they had served "The Citizens" they may not have lost the trust of the majority of them?

Thomas is the text book example of an outsider coming here to foment political chaos.

Could it be said, "Anonym", that you epitomize your kind as well?

And your group defends Hazen with, still, nothing positive regarding His tenure in elected office as a Clatsop County Commissioner?

And now his "Blog" is moderated with not one post to it visible for anybody's reading and he would assume nobody will notice this time as well?

What is a county commissioner supposed to do other than over see the county business? McGee thinks a county commissioner is in charge of inventing or building something. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hazen should be applauded to his efforts to allow the Bradwood facility to locate here-it is much needed for jobs and tax base.

Benton County Commissioner Linda Modrell says this is what a County Commissioner does:...

What Does a
County Commissioner Do?

It is a fact that most people do not know what a county commissioner does. This is generally true in each county. While specific duties may vary somewhat from county to county, the Board of Commissioners function in three general areas:

As a chief executive board, we have administrative and policy duties. We direct and evaluate appointed department heads, negotiate contracts, bargain with labor organizations, enact policies to deliver public services, and appoint residents to county advisory committees, boards, and commissions.
As legislators, we enact ordinances that have the force of law.
In making land use decisions, we render judgments in land use disputes as a quasi-judicial panel.
In Benton County, a major policy responsibility is establishing county priorities through the budget process. Allocations are made within resource limitations, in consideration of competing needs in compliance with legislative mandated services and funds legally restricted to specific uses. The work is done in collaboration with the citizens appointed to the Budget Committee and public input. The county departments include:

Sheriff’s Office: jail, investigation and patrol, emergency services, civil, parole and probation, and support services.
District Attorney: prosecution, victim assistance, and child support and protection.
Administrative Services: elections, records and licenses, human resources, finance and accounting, budget, information resource management, and commission on children and families.
Juvenile: counseling, supervision, and diversion.
Natural Areas & Parks: resource management and parks.
Community Development: planning and building inspection.
Public Works: roads, bridges, survey, facilities maintenance, and motor pool.
Health: public and environment health services, services for the
developmentally disabled, mentally ill, and addictions.
Assessment: property valuation.
Other: fairgrounds, extension service, and health clinic.
Benton County Commissioners serve as board members or are otherwise involved in organizations that contribute to regional collaboration such as the Accountable Behavioral Health Alliance (e.g., mental health), Community Services Consortium (e.g., home weatherization and Food Share) and the Cascades West Council of Governments (e.g., transportation and services for Senior and Disabled). We also serve on a variety of state-level advisory committees, policy boards, taskforces and workgroups.

We work with state and federal officials, and advocate at the Oregon Legislature for legislation that aids in the
