You know what "Anonym", knowing you and your position in the community and the hypocrite that you truly are, that is the kind of conduct one would expect from you.

I am certain you know how it all works so, have at it, vote your ass off to get the result you want but me, I'm going to let it sort itself on its own.

Why not ask the city to put it on an actual ballot which if it is at a time when another city-wide matter or candidate is at issue would cost nothing.
Or ask the Astoria Police to anonymously vote where THEY think the cases should go since they hace experience with both courts?

Two, too common sense solutions Anon, that's why. Willis's lttle coffee club would go ape shit trying to figure the logic in those solutions and trying to get them past the billy bob star chamber.

How bout that mcgee, got those in there for you to save you the trouble.

It's a given that your so called "polls" are disengenuous because you have no credibility or accountability.

So.....does that mean you are not going to vote in this Straw Poll?

You might feel more rewarded by going to the "Poll Packing Effort" in another post about making Astoria "America's Coolest Small Town", you think?

It might be good before this issue is put to a vote to understand the other side of the issue. The DA and Daily A owner have promulgated the idea that the Astoria Municipal Court is bad. They cite cases that, in the totality of all cases handled, seem to generalize a rare situation. They additionally castigate at least a couple lawyers who work in that court and provide that an unknown number of unnamed Astoria Police dislike the court. But, what do we know about the DA's Office? Has this office ever lost a case file and therefore not prosecuted a case? Has this office ever given a sweetheart deal to a local former politician accused of drug violations? Has any lawyer in this office violated the Code of Professional Conduct with no disciplinary action taken? Who is telling us about the other side? No one, and that makes me concerned that if the municipal court is essentially eliminated by this new law, we will be jumping from a known into deep space.

And, Patrick, your oblique comment means what in regard to determining what the Clatsop County District Attorney does?

"Oblique Comment"

Very good and with that kind of intellect, you should have no trouble grasping the point of how it releates to the relevance of the anonymous musings of its preceeding post.

Go for it.

Thats funny, considering you, McGee, juggle the "poll" to suit your warped and twisted view of reality

So, the followers of Patrick want to move DUII cases from the Astoria Municipal Court, where they are assigned according to state law, to County Court where they should be assigned according to Patrick and DA Josh Marquis. And, Patrick even has a poll of a few people that agrees with his opinion. So, let's let Patrick and Josh win and assign all DUII cases to county court. In fact, let's assign all cases to County Court and do away with the costs of municipal and JP courts. That way, Patrick, Steve Forrester and Josh will win and the rest of us will lose. Isn't that the desired result of this argument on this website?

To properly respond to this poll one must decide why municpal court were implemented in the first place. Is the idea that a person who commits a crime will be better sentenced by a local official? For example, is a person convicted of theft better rehabiliated with a sentence of local service than with a sentence of living in a state prison? If the answer is yes, local judges should handle crimes that affect local people, then the DA, a State Official, should leave local court alone. If the answer is no, then then we should eliminate local courts and let the state court system handle all violations. The issue is really that simple. So, what do we want?

the so called poll is meaningless--McGee is just some crack pot with delusions of grandeur..he invented the poll results to match his view--no way do over a hundred people actually come here...it's more like 3 or 4 or half dozen at the most.

107 votes from a City population of about 9.500 and a county population of about 37.000. What is the margin of error for this poll? After all, Patrick, if you are going to be media you should follow the conventions, don't you think?

What is the margin of error for this poll?

somewhere in the 100% categorey--it's a farce plain and simple.

A Straw Poll or Straw Vote is a vote with non-binding results. Straw polls provide important interactive dialogue among movements within large groups, reflecting trends like organization and motivation.[1][2] In meetings subject to rules of order, impromptu straw polls often are taken to see if there is enough support for an idea to devote more meeting time to it, and (when not a secret ballot) for the attendees to see who is on which side of a question.
