Wow, this should make both Sherif Bergin and DA Marquis happy. They have been working for this for years. However, what are we going to do about the criminals that don't go to jail, but need to be watched for a while? I bet this is just a ploy by the Sheriff and his mentor, Marquis, to try to get a multimillion dollar new jail.

No, maybe we won't have adult day care costing the taxpayers a fortune and accomplishing little more than trying to tap low-end felons for money they don't have. Corrections should be about more than just collecting revenue and with the NEW uses of the Transition Center the Sheriff will be able to do just that.
The County Commission and County Manager did the smart and right thing.

I agree. It is a lot cheaper to put these bad people in jail than in a transition center. Just look at the cost figures.

Jim, what on earth do you mean? It costs nearly $1000 a day to keep someone in jail and about #100 a day in the transition center. Do you really think putting shoplifters who can't make bail in jail is a great idea? No way. Getting rid of the transition center is just a way to sooth the sheriff's ego for getting burned over it in the first place.
We poor taxpayers will suffer from this decision both in terms of tax dollars and in crime rates.
I realize you are a patron of the Sheriff and DA's crap, but really, can't you exercise an independent thought? Do you really think eliminating an option to jail is a good idea?
