James "Ace" Neikes is suing Sheriff Tom Bergin and Clatsop County for defamation of character.
Neikes, an Astoria businessman, had applied for the Clatsop County District 3 Commissioner seat vacated when Richard Lee was recalled.

Is the sheriff covered by county insurance so we taxpayers get to pay for this, or is he really an independently elected official and has to pay out of his pocket if he says something untruthful?
