A grassroots movement (often referenced in the context of a political movement) is one driven by the constituents of a community. GRP does not necessarily condone or support the issues presented here. "We demand that big business give the people a square deal; in return we must insist that when anyone engaged in big business honestly endeavors to do right he shall himself be given a square deal." Are We Ready For A New Multi-Use Community Center?
Multiple sports incorporated on site. Indoor and Outdoor. Associated activity acreas and food related businesses. (Example: fast-food on site. Restaurants can be near by) Perhaps some office spaces can be incorporated.
I may be willing to provide "conceptual plans" in the near future to begin development of concepts. If we can get an architect / engineer on board for legal reasons, that be good.
Q: where should it be?
Ideally, I think location should be ample to provide space. It also should be in midst and centrally located. Perhaps, North Coast Business Park. Connected with Warrenton and County.
However, this should be a collaborative effort of the municipality and county should be involved. Of course, there would be muncipal community centers. I think with the close ties of Astoria and Warrenton and Clatsop County, this can be a nice collaborative effort opportunity. Astoria has many elements that already handles that.
With Warrenton growing, a multi-use community center of significant scale can be developed in partnership with Clatsop County and Warrenton and partly with Astoria which may have a municipal community center as well but of smaller scale.
This gets now into the final question.
Q: How should it be funded? I think a collaborative and creative funding system could be involved. Connecting with Clatsop County, Warrenton, Clatsop Community College and Astoria (to a limited scale as Astoria has also plans for its own community center). The scope that I see would involve several things connectively involved. If the LNG companies do come in our community and build their facilities, there would be interesting opportunity for these companies to be involved.
Very interesting. I been googling at various reacreational centers, and sports facilities and general community centers as well.
On NCO, Emil brought up another interesting site option on this hill near Shively Park which is adjacent to Astoria Middle School. It can be interesting. Proximity near CCC's Jerome Ave. Campus is interesting.
*Try to find a balance point of how this facility can help find solutions for detering alcohol/drug abuse and addiction in this community.
* You have a Soccer background. Use it to develop, in conjunction with the local AYSA sanction, an Indoor Soccer Program for the younger kids as well as an Adult League.
Seems to me to be one feasable use that would benefit many but, just looking for its possibilities of benefit would be the first step.

Skipanon Pensinsula as well if the LNG proposal dies.
What a wonderful piece of developable land if its stability can be properly engineered.
Patrick, that is an option. It can be reasonably stabilized. The main thing is, don't built structures to the edge. Use piles and possibly some pontoons incorporated into the below perimeter of building grade level. Injection of rock & gravel within perimeter of building to stiffen up the soil supporting the the building slab. Variety of structural soil can be used.
All locations provide opportunities. Just the fun of deciding a location. We have to see what happens with the LNG site on Skipinon site.
I would be curious about a site near Shively Park and what that be like. It would be interesting to see.

Here is an excellent model to look at, located in Tacoma, Washington.
The forming group would definitely benefit by visiting and talking with the principals.
