OK, Camp Rilea Gets Reba On August 14, 2011 But What About The 7 Months In Between?

Reba Update: So, The Reba Concert Has Absolutely Nothing To Do With Astoria's Bicentennial And Is Merely A Private Venture Just Using It As A Catalyst, Implies Co-Organizer Paul Mitchell On KAST-AM - "The Profits, If Any, Will Be Disbursed Locally"

Radio Ticket Sales Ads Say Concert Is Sponsored, In-Part, By "Astoria Regatta Concert Associaton"?

Reba Update:A $600,000 Price Tag?

Well, having Reba performing at Camp Rilea in August certainly gives us ample opportunity, 7 months as a matter of fact, to capitalize on Astoria's immediate assets to bolster a little prosperity to the businesses of this 200 year old city by, let's say, developing a "Performing Arts Series every weekend to bring other great talent to the area by involving all our venues in the city, large and small, in a coordinated effort to share the talent and prosperity amongst all our retailers.
And hey! How about an actual regatta and establishing the "John Jacob Astor Bicentennial Challenge Cup" by inviting two or three very competitive sailng classes to a week's elemination series culminating in match races per each class at the end of the week and the final Regatta Celebration events?
You know, it could be a blessing in disguise for Astoria, its businesses, its blessings and its residents and the visitors it will bring.
Daily Astorian Update Says Reba A $600,000 Ticket For 12,000 Showgoers At Camp Rilea

What a steaming load of crap. Screw the retailers-we want something for the locals, not the tourists or the greedy sellouts who pander to them.

Well "Anonym" you are very likely in for a very disappointing and miserable 2011 around these parts I betcha.

Who do you suggest should pay for your "Performing Arts Series" every weekend to bring other great talent to the area by involving all our venues in the city???

It's through the charity of Eric Paulsen that Reba is able to perform-I suppose you think he should fund your pipe dream or else put it on the taxpayers?

Just say "NO" to tourism

I really don't think you want an answer "Anonym", nor do you care, nor, more than likely, are you even from here but, the answer is, "Sponsors" and ticket sales where necessary to pay the bands/acts and hope you can profit off the gate and sales the attraction will bring. I would imagine that this one "Big Show" by the Paulson promotion group will gear-up to do the same and when it's over hope they will break even or maybe even turn a profit. Obviously an outdoor venue at Camp Rilea? On the coast? 12000 people? Attempting to outguess that dreaded "Coastal Weather" 7 months ahead? Paulson and group, from my limited experience with playing at outdoor Blues Fests on our coast, has got one helluva challenge ahead...in my view.

I would think an Astoria long-term events schedule with controllable attendance in weather-tight venues would be a more practical and profitable, for many businesses, approach but hey, that's just me and one view only.

That is the worst sentence I have ever tried to read. That being being said, as usual, you got it wrong. I'm from here and you're not.

Of course, your cockamamie approach to anything is guaranteed ridiculous, but let me cue you in on a source of funds to promote big entertainment in the county for special events that you probably dont even know exists

Perfect grammar or no "Anonym" and with your assumed intellect you probably got the point and as usual and as I said, "That's just me and one view only".

You got a source for "Big Entertainment Money" to help fund some bicentennial events, don't be clueing me in. It would be more helpful to contact City of Astoria, Astoria Bicentennial Committee, ADHDA and all involved to give them access to those funds to really help make this an even better celebration. I am certain you would be well-thanked for your efforts whether you are from here or not.

"I'll do no such thing-not going to jump around like my ass is on fire to promote some tourist bullshit or as you call it a "celebration""

Truth is "Anonym" 2011 is a few days away and it appears all we really have planned is one, "Maybe", depending on "Mother Nature", major event planned for August, Coinciding with an event that calls itself a Regatta, in name only?

And this is it?

Yeah we do need to be jumping around like our asses are on fire indeed get ready for it.

After 200 years surviving whatever brings us to today, even those with your fear, this is it?

Maybe you "Anonym", if you are truly from here, might have been born into this world and refuse to see the magic of this place but, most of us here were "Tourists" before we discovered the place's magic and made it our home and made and continue to make our contributions, however significant. And sadly for you, they will continue to come and rather than attempt circle the wagons to keep them out we must adapt to that aspect of our lives here to control it and how it fits into our life quality.

Truth is you would do yourself a favor by putting our bicentennial committee in touch with that "Big Entertainment Money" you think?

Magic?? WTF have you been smoking? There's no such thing as "magic"...there's only lamebrained pilgrims like you haven't a clue regarding my area's unique history and culture but insist on trying to screw this place and it's native sons so a bunch of clowntards from other places can make a sleazy dollar. You people are disgusting

"Sleazy dollars" being made by Clowntards from other places?

You must be one of them outsiders yourself then you simpleminded twit. Erik Paulson seems to be the only name in the news exploiting Astoria's 200 years to cash in on a big payday for himself and his posse by bringing Reba McIntire to Camp Rilea and only because he can sell booze there to make his numbers work. Well, I think mcgee is right about the weather being that big payday's worst enemy if he plans to make it an outside concert. You do know what the weather is like here don't you bigmouth?

What's that, Erik Paulson isn't really as charitable as you might think?

Paul Mitchell? Isn't he the guy that sold-out our local radio network to Northern Star Natural Gas?

Better yet, somebody needs to say "NO" to stupidity before it is way too late.

Anonymous said...

"Your local radio network"???

You own the local radio network?

"Erik Paulson seems to be the only name in the news exploiting Astoria's 200 years to cash in on a big payday for himself"

Oh right. He's gonna sell aircraft tugs to concert goers. He's really going to cash in, uh huh.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure it's being done solely for the good of the community.....because so much good will remain after the half million dollar concert of two hours...what a legacy!

Patrick McGee said...

$600,000 fed into Downtown Astoria from the specific benefit of improving opportunity for its retailers and other businesses?

A Regatta actually being one instead of just in name only?

The Flavel commercial and residential properties still sitting idle and rotting?

Let's not even get into the old Safeway site.

A less than stellar schedule of events for the year by our own Bicenntial Committee, as some would say, reflecting nothing more than what pretty much goes on annually anyway.

A few hours with one High Dollar perfomer if the Saints and weather all merge in agreement on that day?

Is this what we call setting a future path for the next hundred years?

For our first hundred years we got Astoria Column and it's still here, with a little update, in all its beauty and a wonderful attraction that we all still use regularly.

Don't notice your name listed in "The Phone Book" "Anonym".

You from around these parts?

I've been here 16 or so years, "The Column's" been here a hundred and we are both still pretty fresh and aren't going anywhere.

"The Column" was a gift to the people of Astoria to celebrate its first hundred years, I'm just thankful I and my family can live here.

Reba?

She's going to be gone with $600,000 the next day and on to her next gig.

Anonymous said...

You are wrong, as usual. The construction of the Column had nothing to do with the centennial. it was built in the mid 1920s, long after the centennial. I've lived here all my life as did my parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

Reba? Anyone who believes she charges a half a million bucks for one show is a sucker. The money scroungers are inflating her supposed fee because they want people to contribute

Anonymous said...

KI've been here 16 or so years, "The Column's" been here a hundred

the column was completed in 1926. It will be 100 years old in 2026.

"The Column" was a gift to the people of Astoria to celebrate its first hundred years

Wrong again. It was funded by the railroad to serve as a tourist attraction to increase passenger train business. It had absolutely zilch to do with the Astoria Centennial of 1911. If you don't know your history around here please dont make stuff up just in case anyone who might stumble across your post wont be misinformed.

Patrick McGee said...

Hey!

Thanks for the correction "Anonym" and guess what? It's still here, a cherished gift to the people of Astoria no matter when and why it was built and used every day by the citizens of the community.

Reba?

$600,000 and a couple hours, after the opening acts, and she's gone with that money.

$600,000 fed directly into Astoria over a period of a year to celebrate 200 years.

Hmmmm! Wonder what we could do with that to last till the 300th anniversary.

Truth is, I wish all involved the best and hope the weather is agreeable.

Astorian By Choice said...

Actually the reason that thy COULD build the colimn was that the City bought the LAND at Coxcombe Hill and then private donots ten years later built the column.
The City Fathers of 1911 had the foresight to realize that by creating public spaces live Shivley Park and locking down Coxcombe Hill there would be a true legacy for future generations.
The City can claim it has nothing to do with Reba et al in which case what ARE they doing for the Bicentennial.
Maybe Paulson is bankrolling Reba out of the sheer goodness of his heart but if he care about Astoria and not a one-night concert that has a slim chance of selling out @ $50 a head, then PLEASE why don't the City Council, Paulson, and the other bigshot "leaders" try to come up with some REAL improvements - Though not very sexy the Pioneer House is about to go out of existence.
There are are a lot of unmet needs $600,000 would go a long way to solving.

Justin Bieber Rocks said...

But they won't allow alcohol at the Pioneer House will they?

Anonymous said...

no way does Reba Mcintyre charge anywhere near a half mill for one show. The biggest acts in the world dont command that kind of fee. This is just promoter b.s. trying to get donations.

Patrick McGee said...

$300,000 for Reba, $300,000 for Phil Vassar, other opening acts and whatever.

600 Big Ones so "They" say, rain or shine on Camp Rilea's Parade Grounds

Anonymous said...

No way would Reba and her band get that much..as for Phil Vassar, a rank nobody in the national entertainment business, come on. It's a scam, pure and simple.
