Citing that his court, "Has no authority to force a "Land Use Approval", Clatsop County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Nelson denied Oregon LNG/Pipeline's Petition of Mandamus in his ruling released yesterday, May 17, 2011. Oregon LNG/Pipeline's Peter Hansen offered no comment, citing "Ongoing Litigation". Oregon LNG/Pipeline has 30 days to appeal the decision to the appropriate authorities..Click on Thread Title Above For OPB's, Rob Manning Report

Um, a locally elected judge who saw vengence sought by a district attorney who felt abused successfully reeped on several county commissions and a city because the DA was able to rally the anti LNG people to his cause, finds in favor of the anti LNG position. No surprise in this decision, although it is another good reason to appoint rather than elect local judges.
Nelson passes the buck. First time an elected official has ever done that...NOT.
What does the DA have to do with the LNG decision?
And who is seriously going to challenge the integrity and skill of Judge Phil Nelson.
The DA got less than 32% undervotes when he was re-elected for the fith time in May 2010, Judge Nelson got even fewer undervotes, literally THOUSANDS fewer than the judges who ran and won fort he Oregon Supreme Court.
Check out the County's election website:

That means locals respect and like Judge Nelson..
Like Judge Matyas he saw OLNG's position as BS, just like voters, the LUBA, and everyone but the deluded fools who thought Bradwood was anything but con men looking to scam locals with phony claims of "jobs."
Nelson pretty much confirmed Matyas's opinion by cleverly veiling his point that the petition for Writ of Mandamus by OLNG/Pipeline was a cartload "Equine #2".
And now, we can expect OLNG's mouthpiece Hansen and attorneys to appeal it to simply attempt to forestall the inevitable.
I say before it's too late why not enourage Leucadia National and investors to give up the ghost on this project, send Hansen and crew on their way and work with us to get the USS Ranger to that same 90 acre site and then work with us in developing the entire Skipanon site to "OUR" long-term Economic Development and benefit.
Please, do not try encourage the public to fund some big rusty tourist attraction ie. Ranger. It does not belong here, has no local historical significance, would be an eyesore and create a mess.

That's exactly what I am going to encourage after the failure of Oregon LNG/Pipeline's proposal.
I will also encourage a cohesive and compatible Planned Unit Development of the surrounding lands geared to providing a strong tax base and maximum long-term, sustainable family wage jobs for this community unless you have something better.
You got anything better other than a reluctance to stand under your own name to defend your point Anonym?
Well, if you are going to try to rally people to get the Ranger here, please have it be a county and not a city of Astoria thing. We already have the pool and don't need another millstone.
The City of Astoria, Bill, needs to be worried and critically so, about our ancient infrastructure collapsing around us at any moment and I fear we are going to awake one morning to that tragic news.
The pool?
I say shut it down remove it, expand the building and put in an Ice Arena/Community Center.
