Hi Patrick. I am just curious about what you are concerned about. Yes, I donated money to the committee in opposition to 4-123. Many people donated to it as well as those that donated to the committee that supported the measure including the district attorney and his family. What is the issue?
I was emailed and asked to put this "out to there" which I have done.
Perhaps the issue is that because you as a commissioner initiated the removal of the DA stipen, which resulted in the initiative 4-123, for which you then supported and donated monies to oppose the measure.
Hmmm...I dont know, can you support with leagal statute that this action is legal ? Doesn't sound ethical to me personally. And another personal note: Is this action your idea of " Building Community " ?
And Sam Patrick initiated that stupid ballot measure trying to get the stipend back. He is also is a commissioner. Not of the quality of Mr. Hazen, granted, but a commissioner just the same. Patrick also supported 4-123 by making a clownish little youtube video. If he contributed funding to the pro 4-123 effort, I dont know, but if he did it's his own business as it is Mr. Hazen's.

His conduct? Personally I see his conduct as being no more becoming that the rest of CCBofC on this issue.
The issue here, to my understanding and by the way, this curiosity, should Hazen choose to not respond himself, is to find the answer by presenting the scenario to whomever necessary, is that Hazen is not an incidental contributor here, he is a sitting Clatsop County Commissioner who authored the resolution to abolish the stipend paid to Clatsop County District Attorney, sparking a measure, 4-123, to reinstate the stipend and then contributing cash to a counter committee fighting the measure, twice.
Is it ethical?
Legal?
A conflict of interest?
Simply show the statute that allows it.
County Counsel should nip this right in the bud by a position statement if it's ok.
Hmmm... I thought it was distinctly against the rules for an elected person involved directly with either side of a voting issue to donate to a 527 group involved with the same issue, or to coordinate their activities with a 527 group. Maybe that's just my lack of understanding though.
