FINAL OPEN HOUSE SET FOR MILES CROSSING TRAFFIC PLAN
The public is invited to offer input on a new long-range traffic strategy for the Miles Crossing/Jeffers Garden area at an open house Thursday, Jan. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Elementary School.
Representatives from Clatsop County, the Oregon Department of Transportation and the cities of Astoria and Warrenton will be on hand to accept public comment on the Miles Crossing/Jeffers Garden Refinement Plan and discuss recommended alternatives from the plan’s advisory committee.
The plan is intended to ensure smooth traffic flow over the next 20 years for local residents, long-distance travelers and freight on U.S. Highway 101-Business, which runs through the rural communities of Miles Crossing and Jeffers Garden between Astoria and Warrenton.
The plan, which is being developed with help from CH2M Hill, analyzes traffic movement on the route in light of potential future development both in the Miles Crossing-Jeffers Garden area and the surrounding region.
In 2002 Clatsop County adopted the Rural Community overlay for the Miles Crossing area. The new land-use designation allows higher-density uses and, combined with proposed water and sewer improvements, is expected to spur more development in the area.
The refinement plan will study local circulation needs, consider potential road connections to serve future development, develop safety and design improvements and analyze possible bicycle and pedestrian improvements. An approved plan will permit the county to apply for state and federal funding for these projects.
The Jan. 22 meeting is the final public open house on the plan, which is set for completion in March. For more information about the project, go to www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION2/MilesCrossingJeffersGarden/shtml
