This Newspaper you refer to, does it not understand international economics? Globalized Shipping?
I'm only aware of a few successful international private ports and I know why the Washington Group did not do well, it wasn't why they bought it. Having watched this facility for more than 20 years, you locals are on to something. Don't stop, especially now.
I would rather lease a facility from a public port than deal with the issues that tie the hands of private ports of this scale.
I would think the locals would want control over their port and a port authority is far off the better choice for your community.

We surely want to believe anything Steve Forrester says. He is such a wonderful person who even shares stories of his worldwide travels with us (since he knows be poor lowbrows will never be able to see, let alone appreciate, the wonderful world he lives in. There can be no doubt that a person so extremely well educated, so brilliantly intelligent and so willing to share his views on everything would ever lead us astray.
It would certainly be a concern if the East Oregonian Publishing Company owned it, I bet.
