The "Top Ten." It's a title that implies distinction and pride. Yet before 1994, Oregon made the top ten in a category no one was proud of: violent crime. "Life sentences" for murder typically meant less than nine years in prison. A person convicted of forcible rape could be in and out of prison in less than three years. Oregonians were tired of being victimized at the hands of criminals and a justice system in which they saw no justice. So, that is what good old Tom is doing these days. Well, crime and drugs are up in Clatsop County, but it is good to know our Sheriff is active in state politics.
It's amazing that our rodeo cowboy sheriff who barely graduated from high school can articulate something like this. But, good for Tom. I don't know who wrote his stuff, but he got his name on it and it makes all of us in Clatsop County look good. He needs to do more of this state wide stuff while he is working in Salem.
I agree. I am happy to know that Big Tom can actually write, or at least proof the stuff other write. While I don't understand why he is not working on the drug task force instead of being in Salem, I can understand that, with no challengers, he feels free to do whatever he wants. He obviously feels his deputies can deal with Clatsop County issues during his extended absences (although it does seem they need driving lessons).
Yes, we are so fortunate to have elected Big Tom as our Sheriff. Just look at all the things he has done for Clatsop County. In fact, let's make a list. Anyone have anything to put on the list?
