The Daily Astorian Wins Six Regional Awards For Writing

The Daily Astorian won six awards in the annual Society of Professional Journalists regional contest, including three first-place trophies.

The contest was open to newspapers in five Western states and awards were for work published in 2007.

Reporter Cassandra Profita earned two first-place trophies, one in the government reporting category for her three-part series on the financial troubles of the Port of Astoria and another in the lifestyles category for a story about the annual Fisher Poets Gathering.
