Astoria has earned national recognition for its efforts to promote "a sense of place" at the mouth of the Columbia River.It was announced Monday that it will be the focus of a new initiative from The Ford Foundation, the New York-based institution which is one of the world's leading philanthropical organizations.
Details were revealed at an early evening press conference featuring Mayor Willis Van Dusen, members of the Astoria City Council and other key leaders.
The program seeks to find consensus on the direction and growth of a community while making sure that the needs of vulnerable people - like elderly and low-income residents - are not overlooked.
The project comes under the umbrella of the Environmental Simulation Center in New York, a nonprofit group specializing in community development which is supported by the Ford Foundation.....For Full Article, Click On Title Above.
